Ca sĩ Duy Mạnh recently shared about the court case against Mercedes-Benz Việt Nam, expressing his dissatisfaction with their untruthful attitude. He emphasized that the outcome of the case is less important than the principle involved.
According to Duy Mạnh, the luxury car suddenly caught fire while parked. The condo’s security guard intervened by opening the hood to extinguish the flames, fearing the fire might spread. The police then impounded the vehicle for investigation.
The authorities concluded that the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction. They found evidence of rodent activity, including droppings, leaves, and plastic debris inside the car. The hood was severely damaged, with burn marks and warping.
However, Mercedes-Benz Việt Nam attributed the incident to rodent damage, citing the presence of droppings as evidence. When asked about potential consequences had the fire not been controlled, their response was that the rodent would be responsible. Duy Mạnh found this reply amusing.
“To be honest, whether I win or lose isn’t the main issue. It’s the way they’ve handled this situation that’s truly laughable,” Duy Mạnh remarked.
Outraged by Mercedes-Benz’s response, Duy Mạnh decided to file a lawsuit. His Mercedes-Benz S 450 L, purchased in 2020 for over 5 billion VND, caught fire in 2023 while parked in his condo. The insurance company compensated him with 2.9 billion VND, valuing the car as used despite still being under warranty. Mercedes-Benz, however, claimed the fire resulted from rodent activity, a reasoning Duy Mạnh deemed unreasonable.
“I’m not focused on the money, but I deserve a satisfactory explanation,” Duy Mạnh stated. The car, which cost approximately 5.5 billion VND including all fees, remains unresolved as the legal process continues.
The public has shown keen interest in this case, especially after Duy Mạnh publicly discussed it on his personal social media after a long period of silence.
